Meet the Team: Mike Watts – Business Development Manager

Business News | Gritting | Snow Clearing | 13 February

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mike Watts to the newly established role of Business Development Manager.

Based at the AccuGrit HQ in Suffolk, the position within the business will help support Dean and Richard in their drive to promote and grow the company across the UK.

AccuGrit has been through a process of change and restructuring over the past 12 months, adapting to ensure that we are best placed to move forward and provide our clients with the services they require and demand. Therefore, we are thrilled that Mike has joined us, and we are already enjoying the benefits of his experience.

Now that Mike has had the chance to settle into the office, we put the interrogation lamp on and asked him a few questions to find out more about AccuGrit’s newest recruit.

Hi Mike, please tell us a little about your background.

I first stepped into the facilities industry at ground level as a cleaner in 2009. I quickly became a supervisor in 2010 for Suffolk County Council. My drive and ambition meant that I continued on my career journey supervising larger teams and working with companies such as Bupa, New Suffolk College, and Sanctuary Group.

In 2016 I started my first position as Operations Manager with Greater Anglia, managing a large team and a complex operation across Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex.

In 2019 I stepped into my first Account Management role with Churchill Contract Services, working with many large organisations across East Anglia and even managed the site where I gained my first role in the industry nine years prior. In 2021 I was promoted to Senior Account Manager.

In 2022, I moved over to grounds maintenance with a large outdoor compliance company, where I held the account manager position for one of the big 4 FM providers in the world.

Tell us what attracted you to work at AccuGrit.

Having enjoyed my previous role in winter services, I wanted to continue in the industry. I had heard of AccuGrit from being in the industry and knew AccuGrit as a name that held value, a name that meant quality and excellent customer service. Once I had met with Dean, I was sold on the company’s vision, ethos and ambition.

What is a typical day going to look like at AG for you?

A typical day for me is growing the AccuGrit brand and ensuring the name is far-reaching within the industry. Expanding on existing partnerships and developing new relationships, plus increasing the number of clients we provide services to.

What are you looking forward to working on for AG over the next 12 months?

I look forward to growing the AccuGrit portfolio and bringing on new, exciting, and prestigious clients. In addition, I am looking forward to helping the hardworking AccuGrit team deliver superior service to as many customers as possible.

Finally, tell us about your hobbies.

I am an Arsenal supporter and try to get to games where possible. I also enjoy taking my 2-year-old Border Collie for long walks.

When the winter season finishes and time becomes a little more manageable in summer, I enjoy cycling and paddleboarding.
